About us

Welcome to our homepage!

We are a company founded in 2023, specialized in the planning and manufacturing of test equipment in the field of fuel cells and hydrogen electrolysis. Our main focus is on the production of cell housings and measuring equipment for PEM fuel cells, as well as PEM/AEM and AEL electrolysis.

Our history

GFS Fuel Cells GmbH was launched in June 2023, specializing in the design, construction, and manufacturing of fuel cells and electrolyzers. We design and manufacture both standardized and custom test cells and measuring equipment in the field of PEM, AEM, and AEL technology. An overview of what we specifically offer our customers can be viewed here.

It all started in 2021 at the Karlsruhe Institute of Technology (KIT). From there, initially as students, Mischa and Yannick worked together on segmented fuel cells and associated evaluation routines. After many months at the test stand and countless self-made test housings, the decision was made to start a company after completing their studies.

What does GFS do?

We operate similarly to an engineering office for hydrogen technology—our focus, however, in addition to construction and planning activities, is on the active manufacturing of test cells and measuring equipment. Specifically, we manufacture single cells, short stacks, and segmented fuel cells for scientific use in both private and public research institutions, or in industry. We take care of everything from planning and design to manufacturing, necessary to produce a finished test housing.

Our expertise lies in the area of PEM fuel cells, as well as PEM, AEM, and AEL electrolysis.

Our cells are often used in model validation, basic research, or the further development of real physical systems in industry. We take special care to design each housing for long-term use in science. Specifically, this means that our test cells are architecturally ideally suited to the measurement technology used—whether conventional U/I characteristics are recorded, or more complex impedance-based measurement methods are employed. We also now offer measuring equipment such as temperature controls or data loggers.

With access to a state-of-the-art machine park, we can not only produce demanding architectures, flow and distributor fields, but also micro-dimensional structures in the micrometer range, as used in the automotive sector and in high-performance units.
